Building a better future for all
JoopeA Foundation is a non-profit organisation working to advance human rights, LGBTIQ+ equality and internet freedom.
Our work combines advocacy, technology, digital publishing, community building and public engagement to create opportunities for people and communities whose voices are often restricted, overlooked or excluded.
JoopeA was established in Iran in 2009 by a group of queer bloggers, practitioners and human rights activists. In 2014, the organisation was formally registered as a foundation in the Netherlands by E. Rafiee and became part of Dutch Civil Society.
Since the beginning, our work has focused on a simple principle: everyone should have the freedom to live with dignity, express themselves, access information and participate in society without discrimination or fear.
What we do
We develop and support initiatives that connect human rights with technology and community.
Our activities have included:
- Developing secure and accessible online platforms and services
- Publishing and distributing information on human rights and sexual rights
- Supporting Queer communities and human rights defenders
- Creating opportunities for visibility and community participation
- Organising public events, campaigns and advocacy activities
- Bringing people from different backgrounds together around shared values
- Experimenting with technology as a tool for social change
Our projects have evolved over time. Some have grown into independent initiatives, while others have been concluded as circumstances and priorities changed.
Our approach
Digital freedom, access to information and freedom of expression are increasingly important parts of human rights. For communities living under social, political or technological restrictions, access to safe digital spaces can make a meaningful difference.
We therefore combine technical expertise with community knowledge and human-rights experience.

By “all”, we mean first and foremost all human beings, while also striving to extend that care to other forms of life and the world we share.
We believe meaningful change is built through people: through knowledge, participation, solidarity, creativity and the courage to create something better.

To promote universal respect for and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms, including the elimination of all forms of discrimination and stigmatisation.
This mission guides our work across human rights, Queer equality, digital freedom, access to information and community development.
